Portage, Wisconsin

Portage, Wisconsin is where I grew up. The first white explorers cruised through in the mid 1600s, but native Americans have been living here since the beginning of time, I am sure. It is a quiet little river town that no longer uses the river and the canal, which was once one of the most important waterways in the nation, has been shut down for decades. The people who live here are amazing, there is still a soda fountain (my first job!), a drive-in theatre and a wonderful furniture store on the main drag where you can pop in and say hello to my folks. Perfect.
